According to reporting by the Financial Times, citing documents and people familiar with the matter, Russian specialists have assisted an Iranian weapons program involving ramjet propulsion technology. The technology could allow cruise missiles to sustain supersonic speeds over significant distances. The reported Iranian project, identified as C430L, is said to involve technical cooperation with Russian entities and specialists. Ramjet engines differ from conventional rocket propulsion by using incoming air during flight, potentially allowing missiles to travel at high speed while maintaining greater range and maneuverability. The reports do not establish that Iran currently possesses an operational missile produced through the program. There is also no public evidence that a Russian-assisted C430L weapon has entered active Iranian military service. The distinction is significant. Iran already operates a large and diverse missile arsenal, including ballistic and cruise missile systems capable of reaching targets across much of the Middle East.
